My journey began in the heart of our village in Nasautoka, Wainibuka Tailevu, where I witnessed firsthand the power of community development through my Father's tireless work. He dedicated his life to bringing economic empowerment to our people, and his passion ignited my own – a desire to build stronger, more resilient communities. |
My two decades in the hotel industry provided invaluable experience, but it also exposed me to the complex social challenges facing our people. I saw the clash between iTaukei and Western cultures, the devastating effects of alcohol on families, the pain of infidelity, and the resulting family breakdown. As an HR manager, I was on the front lines, supporting our people through domestic violence, the burden of predatory lending, and the constant struggle for economic stability. These experiences painted a stark picture of the challenges facing our families.
My subsequent community development work brought these issues into sharper focus. I saw the gaps, particularly in economic empowerment, and the urgent need for greater collaboration among land-owning units. And in today's digital age, these challenges have only grown. Social media, while offering connection, has also contributed to weakening family interaction, eroding our young people's sense of identity, and exacerbating mental health issues, drug use, and the spread of HIV.
The work on our strategic village development plan in 2022 served as a catalyst. It solidified everything I had learned and made it clear: I had to do more. I believe, wholeheartedly, that strengthening families is the key to unlocking a brighter future for our community.
Pave the Way is the embodiment of this belief. Born from a deep personal connection to my community and a profound understanding of its needs, we're more than just consultants – we're partners in progress.
